What is MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the most advanced technology available to view inside the human body in 3-D. Medical Diagnostic Center’s non-invasive, mid-field strength open MRI has the capacity to hold up to 500 pounds – giving our claustrophobic and larger-than-average patients plenty of breathing room.

Medical Diagnostic Center’s MRI uses a magnet, radio waves and an advanced computer to make visible the smallest detail of your body. Our MRI is used to diagnose a number of conditions, including brain diseases, cancerous tumors, herniated discs and sports injuries.

Getting an MRI is simple, painless and safe. You will not see or feel anything. You will hear
a loud knocking sound – this is simply the imaging process in operation.

There is no need to wear a patient gown as long as you wear clothing without such metal objects as zippers, snaps and clasps. You may be injected with a contrast media if necessary. For your safety and comfort, ear plugs are provided to block out the noise created by the MRI. A built-in microphone in the MRI allows the MRI technologist to communicate with you.

A typical procedure lasts about 45 minutes or longer depending on the information requested by your physician. For best imaging results, you will be asked to simply relax and remain as still as possible during the exam.
